Rotobrush Coil Cleaning: The Marietta Owner’s Guide

Rotobrush coil cleaning in Marietta typically costs between $145 and $320 for the full kit and installation, and we keep the most common Rotobrush coil cleaning brushes, combs, and solution on our trucks so we can usually handle the swap during a single visit. Most Marietta owners discover the part has failed when airflow drops off noticeably and the system starts working harder to pull air through a coil that isn’t getting clean. You’ll hear the brush skipping or chattering against the coil fins, or you’ll open the unit and see bent, packed bristles that stopped doing their job months ago.

What surprises most people is how fast a worn brush wrecks efficiency. An air conditioning coil that can’t shed the lint, dust, and Georgia humidity grime builds up a film that insulates the coil. That means your system runs longer, pulls more power, and still can’t hold the set point upstairs in a Marietta two-story during the July stretch from late morning to mid-afternoon. If you’re seeing dust on the intake side or the brush hub is wobbling, the cleaning hardware is done, not the coil itself.

Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To

This applies to Rotobrush brush-type air duct and coil cleaning machines, specifically the AiR+ series, the older R500 and R2000 models, and the F9 and S4000 coil cleaning attachments that mount to those units. Rotobrush changed the brush hub threading and collar depth between the R-series and the AiR+ series, so a brush from a 2011 R2000 will not always seat correctly on a 2019 AiR+, even when the outer diameter looks close. If you can’t find the model plate, measure the hub bore: AiR+ coil brushes are drilled for a 5/16-inch hex shaft with a spring-loaded detent, while the older R-series uses a smooth 1/4-inch shaft with a set-screw collar. That’s the compatibility gotcha that causes the most returned parts in Marietta.

Rotobrush OEM brushes and combs are well made, but the bristle compound shipped from the factory is the same compound used nationwide. In Georgia humidity and heat, especially in attics that hit 130 degrees in August, the bristles can soften and splay earlier than the spec sheet suggests. We often recommend a firmer aftermarket bristle option for attics here in Cobb County, or at minimum inspecting the brush twice a season if your air handler lives in a hot attic. Aftermarket is fine on the older R-series machines if you match the shaft spec; on AiR+ machines, we stay with OEM hubs because the detent groove depth is easier to miss-match on aftermarket parts than it’s worth. Linden Air Duct Marietta is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Rotobrush or its parent companies; we’re just picky about the parts we’ll install on somebody else’s equipment.

Signs Your Rotobrush Coil Cleaning Is Failing

  • The brush chatters or bounces against the coil fins instead of laying flat. That’s almost always a worn hub bearing or a bent shaft. The brush may still spin, but every bounce leaves a stripe of uncleaned coil, and the uneven contact eventually bends fins around the edges.
  • You can see daylight through the bristles when you hold the brush up to a window. Bristles pack down over time, especially with heavy lint and damp coil buildup. A brush that’s lost its crown can’t reach the bottom third of the coil valleys, which is exactly where Marietta’s humidity leaves the worst film.
  • The cleaning solution line sputters or dribbles instead of spraying a fine mist. That’s a clogged or cracked tip, or a check valve that’s dried out. It usually means the cleaning chemical is pooling in one spot instead of wetting the coil evenly, and that eats bristles fast.
  • The brush stalls when it hits the coil, then spins back up after the operator backs off. A dragging brush means friction is doing the cleaning, not the bristle tips. It also means the motor’s working outside its design range, and you’ll be replacing more than a brush if that keeps up through a full season.
  • You see a line of bent fins along one side of the coil after a pass. That’s a brush diameter that’s too aggressive for that coil fin spacing, or a hub that’s not seated flush. It’s easy to blame the operator, but we usually find the brush itself has worn unevenly enough to pull sideways.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Marietta, plan on $145 to $190 for a mid-grade replacement brush by itself, or $210 to $320 for a full kit: brush, hub, and a replacement tip for the solution line, installed. The range depends on which Rotobrush series you’re running and whether we’re swapping in an OEM hub or a quality aftermarket brush. An AiR+ brush runs toward the top of that range; an R-series brush is usually toward the bottom. We quote one flat price per machine before we start, and the price we quote is the price on the invoice. No per-vent add-ons, no surprise line items.

Every replacement brush we install in Marietta is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the brush fails or doesn’t perform correctly within 365 days of the install date, we make it right. That’s in writing on every job, not just talked about. The promise covers the part and the labor we did to put it in. If the coil itself needs repairs beyond the brush, like fin straightening or a deeper chemical cleaning, we’ll show you what we found before writing anything up. Marcus Veale’s standing rule is: “Tell me what’s in the system before you tell me what it costs to fix it.”

DIY or Call Us?

You can check the brush yourself without much risk: look for packed bristles, a wobbly hub, and scoring on the shaft where the detent rides. That tells you whether you’ve got a simple brush swap or a deeper hub problem. The dangerous part of coil cleaning isn’t the brush; it’s what’s downstream. The coil sits in the airflow path, and if the cleaning head sheds bristles or the hub lets go mid-spin, the debris ends up in the air handler or the ductwork. That’s expensive to chase. The other thing to respect is electricity: the unit has to be de-energized before the cover comes off, and if you’re not sure how the disconnect works, stop.

For most Marietta homeowners we’re honest: buy the brush from us, and if it’s a simple match, you can mount it yourself in twenty minutes. But if the hub is scored or the solution line is acting up, we’d rather come out and do the diagnostic right the first time. You can call us at (912) 405-8840 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a brush-only fix or something else.
